The constituency is fortunate to have a resistant theatre, music and visual arts scene, with initiatives such as Music Generation, Creative Spark, Droichead Youth Theatre, Highlanes Gallery, MAD Youth Theatre, Louth Contemporary Music Society, Calipo Theatre and Picture Company, Droichead Arts Centre, the Drogheda Arts Festival, and a significant number of individual arts practitioners.

Recent funding from the European Regional Development fund – through the PEACE III programme – has also supported many arts organisations in the constituency, with various programmes under way this month, including Upstate Theatre Project’s own Upstate Youth Ensemble project, a physical theatre programme for young people aged 16 to 25.

We hope to promote these initiatives, and everything else going on, through our networks and our fledgling Facebook page. Through the page, we hope to provide people with details of what’s happening in the constituency, arts events listings and updates from the National Campaign for the Arts.

The page is not just for arts workers – this is a page for everyone in Louth with an interest in the arts (as a maker, participant or audience member) and a belief in cultural democracy, creativity, and the arts as a conduit to freedom of expression.
