Theatre Forum presentation to the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Sport, Tourism, Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs
Theatre Forum is due to make a presentation to the Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Sport, Tourism, Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs at 2.30pm this Wednesday 14 October with regards to the importance of public funding for theatre and positive impact of the arts on Ireland’s economic and social recovery.
A delegation consisting of Playwright and Faber & Faber’s highest grossing novelist, Sebastian Barry, Director of the Abbey Theatre, Fiach Mac Conghail and Artistic Director of Druid Theatre Company, Garry Hynes, will outline the vital contribution the arts makes to Ireland’s local economy, global reputation and national sense of self.
Theatre Forum’s presentation will follow a similar briefing to the Oireachtas Committee from the Arts Council in which Emmy Award winning Irish actor, Brendan Gleeson, will address the Committee for the first time ever. The delegation includes Pat Moylan, Chair of the Council, Director Mary Cloake and novelist Colum McCann.
