The National Campaign for the Arts Welcomes the Government’s Decision Not to Axe Irish Film Board

The National Campaign for the Arts is delighted that the government has had the sense not to axe the Irish Film Board stating that the film industry in Ireland employs in excess of 5,000 full-time equivalent jobs.  The decision to reverse plans to scrap the board was outlined in the revised programme for government as agreed by the Green Party and Fianna Fail on Friday.

Tania Banotti, Executive Director of Theatre Forum, which spearheaded the National Campaign for the Arts, says “the Film Board is a specialized agency which has built up a unique expertise in the area of film finance and it would have been a terrible shame if it had been axed.  We warmly welcome the government’s decision.”
